As of April, 2014, Canadian government information is no longer available in print. It is now exclusively available electronically. Content on government websites is constantly changing without notification and some government sites were taken down without warning. Furthermore, the scope of the publication policy and the consolidation of websites to the canada.ca and the ontario.ca sites have posed many challenges to the access of this important information. Preserving government information has never been so critical.
Since 2005, many efforts have been made to archive Canadian government websites including projects from the Library and Archives Canada, the Canadian Government Information Digital Preservation Network (CGI DPN) and individual institutions like the University of Alberta and the University of Toronto. This session will cover web archiving projects for all levels of Canadian government websites and introduce ways to access and search the archival government websites.
Location: Robarts Library, Blackburn Room.
