TALL is accepting applications for the 2017 James D. Lang Professional Development Award which was created in recognition of the significant contribution to our community by popular legal publishing representative, Jim Lang.
This year, $2000 has been allocated from the Association’s funds to assist two or more TALL Members with their career development, with a maximum award of $1000 per winner.
As our legal environment is changing so rapidly, Members are required to take professional development courses or attend conferences. Applications should take the form of a letter outlining the applicant’s request, postmarked or received prior to March 15, 2017. In your letter please include, at a minimum, why you would like to attend the course/conference, why you are pursuing funding, and what learning you will be leveraging to contribute to TALL and/or the profession of legal librarianship as a result of attendance. It is also helpful to include a breakdown of associated / projected costs.
The members of the Executive Committee will then meet to review the applications and determine the most worthy request(s).
The Recipient(s) will be notified by April 1st, and will be introduced at the TALL AGM in June.
The Recipient(s) will be asked to write a short report for the TALL Quarterly. This report could take the form of a review of a course taken or conference attended.
The Recipient(s) will be required to submit official receipts for the reimbursement of expenses related to the professional development activity.
Eligible candidates must have been members of TALL for at least one year.
Applications should be forwarded to the following address:
